WHAT TOURNAMENTS AND EVENTS SHOULD I SIGN UP FOR?

Every year, the amount of tournaments available to juniors across the nation is incredibly high. In most cases, it can be really difficult to pick and choose which you play and which you don't. Hopefully, this will make it a little bit easier and make the options available more clear.

At 692, we advertise and have coaches at some tournaments more often than others. In some cases, this is due to our proximity to the tournament. In others, it is a result of the tournament stakes (I.e. National Championship tournaments). As a club, we advertise the BVCA and CBVA Tours the most. This is due to the level played and the accessibility of location. However, there are many great options beyond that and it is up to you as a player to decide which you play.

Here is our comprehensive list & description of the tournament tours available for juniors players:

  1. BVCA - Beach Volleyball Clubs of America - The host of Club Challenge events and the largest national championship tournament of the summer. The BVCA was created in order to form a community and a support system for Beach Volleyball Clubs across America, and 692 is a founding member of the group. Only girls on our 692 National Team are selected to play in BVCA tournaments.
  2. CBVA - California Beach Volleyball Association - Was created to bring together the local beach volleyball communities and maximize the opportunities to play through a unified schedule made up of organized, accessible tournaments for every skill level at many locations along the California coast.
  3. AAU - Amateur Athletic Union - The host of the Junior Olympics and another national championship tournament, along with several tour stops and JO qualifiers across the nation annually. The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports, and across all sports has nearly 800,000 annual participants.
  4. P1440 - Platform 1440 - Co-founded by three-time olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and seven-time AVP Open Champion Casey Jennings in 2018 to strengthen opportunities in the sport of beach volleyball. The host of several national events and qualifiers throughout the year.
  5. AVP - American Volleyball Professionals - The current domestic Professional Tour hosts a juniors series as well, with events titled "AVP First." The higher level events, titled "AVP Next" or "AVP Pro," are open registration as well, so, if you are at an open level and want to take a shot at some professional tournaments, you are completely able to do that too!
  6. BVNE - Beach Volleyball National Events - The host of some of the largest recruiting tournaments in the nation (second to National Championship tournaments only). If you want to play college beach volleyball, the BVNE events are an INCREDIBLE opportunity to put yourself right in front of dozens of college coaches at a time while competing.
  7. USAV - USA Volleyball - Host of the USA National Team Development Programs (NTDP), international tournament qualifiers, and the USA Volleyball Beach Tour. This tour is a joint effort between USA Volleyball and the 40 USAV regions for junior volleyball players. There are qualifying and non-qualifying events, with the qualifying events distributing bids to the USA Volleyball Beach National Championship.

DO I NEED TO BE ON THE 692 NATIONAL TEAM TO PLAY IN TOURNAMENTS?

For any tournament with open registration, it is completely up to you as a player to register and sign up (whether you are on the National Team or not). Events where only our National Team competes are due to the nature of the event, where bids are awarded to participate and/or a coach selects players and teams to compete (I.e. BVCA National Championships). In Club vs. Club challenge events, our National Team competes. In any other individual/open registration event, anyone can compete, and we encourage all of our players who want to play in tournaments to sign up!!
